Blassingame, a professor at Scripps College, will reflect on her work as proprietor of Primrose Press, exploring how printmaking and book arts can promote discussion of issues of race, racism, memory, and history. Drawing on recent artist’s book projects such as African American: A Handbook, White: A Handbook, and The Benefits of Slavery, she will examine how material form, typography, and process reveal hidden narratives that encourage questioning of inherited assumptions. Blassingame considers the printing press as both witness and tool and will trace how ink carries histories forward while opening space to imagine more just and expansive futures. She invites the audience to consider how the pages of an artist’s book record histories, carry memory, and open space for reflection.Maggie Greaves will now be in charge of the Fox-Adler Lecture series with Catherine Golden's retirement this May.
