The Sustainability Office and Saratoga Unites invite you to a screening of The Age of Consequences on Tuesday, November 14 at 6:00 pm in Filene Auditorium. Rather than screening the film in its entirety, we will view select segments followed by a discussion with Lance Clark, former UN Ambassador, and Nurcan Atalan-Helicke, Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies and Sciences Program. Ambassador Clark and Dr. Atalan-Helicke will talk about the threats that climate change poses to national security and the role that the US military can play in addressing the issue.

The Age of Consequences "investigates the impacts of climate change on increased resource scarcity, migration, and conflict through the lens of US national security and global stability. Admirals, generals and military veterans take viewers beyond the headlines of the conflict in Syria, the social unrest of the Arab Spring, the rise of radicalized groups like ISIS, and the European refugee crisis – and lay bare how climate change stressors interact with societal tensions, sparking conflict.”

Ambassador Clark has 35 years of experience in emergency relief conflicts, forced displacements, early warning conflicts, and peace-building operations. He has worked in places such as Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Rwanda, Iraq, Chechnya, Georgia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Serbia, and other countries. Dr. Atalan-Helicke worked professionally for Turkey's largest rural development project in its Syrian and Iraqi borders, and now teaches many courses focused on climate change, including Global Environmental Governance.
