The Classics Department proudly presents

The Annual David H. Porter Classical World Lecture

Join illustrious comics artist and author Glynnis Fawkes as she presents her latest work, a graphic-novel adaptation of Eric Cline's best-seller, 1177 BC: The Year Civilization Collapsed. Her presentation will include remarks on the nature of adapting scholarship to the comics medium, and on her long career as an artist

Copies of 1177 BC will be available for purchase and signing after the event.

The Annual Porter Lecture celebrates the interdisciplinary life and work of David H. Porter, Skidmore's fifth president, classicist, musician, polymath, and punster extraordinaire. The event, long associated with the Classics Department's Classical World course, was rechristened in David's honor in 2015 in order to open new and exciting windows on the study of the ancient Mediterranean.

Glynnis Fawkes is the co-author with Eric H Cline and illustrator of 1177 BC: A Graphic History of the Year Civilization Collapsed (Princeton University Press). She is also the author-illustrator of Charlotte Brontë before Jane Eyre (Little, Brown) and Persephone’s Garden (Secret Acres), among other books, and her comics have appeared on the website of The New Yorker. She has worked as an archaeological illustrator around the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, and she teaches at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont. Visit her at www.glynnisfawkes.com.
