Chinese pipa master Gao Hong is internationally recognized for her dynamic stage presence and exceptional skill on the four-stringed Chinese lute. A genre-defying performer and composer, she seamlessly blends the traditional sounds of Chinese music with contemporary and global influences—crafting performances that are both deeply rooted and refreshingly innovative. Whether playing centuries-old repertoire or original compositions, Gao Hong’s music bridges cultures and generations, connecting audiences through the universal language of sound.
Over the course of her career, Gao Hong has collaborated with musicians from around the world, including performances with jazz artists, bluegrass players, Syrian oud masters, and Senegalese kora virtuosos. Her performances range from meditative solo pieces to high-energy ensemble work, each infused with her infectious spirit and technical brilliance. In concert, she shares not only her music but also the stories behind the pipa and its traditions—inviting audiences into an intimate and engaging experience that transcends borders.
