Tarta Relena is the vocal duo of Marta Torrella and Helena Ros. Founded in 2016, the project brings together two singers exploring the possibilities of a cappella performance, drawing on diverse vocal styles and traditions. Their repertoire ranges from traditional Mediterranean music to original compositions, expanding the boundaries between the sacred and the secular.
Experimentation is at the heart of Tarta Relena’s work. Their creative process blends distinct vocal timbres with electronic samples and synthetic sounds, creating intricate arrangements that seek complexity through simplicity and maximum expression with minimal elements.
Their latest album, És Pregunta, engages with the idea of tragic thought, presenting a cast of characters who confront inevitable consequences—both familiar and mysterious. The songs weave together themes of fate, the pursuit of knowledge, and the human struggle to reconcile with our future selves. Through music and lyrics, Tarta Relena explores the tension and mystery of what lies beyond our understanding, drawing from logics outside our usual ways of being.
The evening will open with Meara O’Reilly’s Hockets For Two Voices — performed by Mingjia Chen & Linnea Sablosky.
