In collaboration with six internationally acclaimed opera
soloists, the Skidmore Orchestra, under the direction of Anthony G. Holland,
concludes Skidmore’s Leonard Bernstein at 100 Celebration. The program
includes a “West Side Story” suite and “Candide” Overture followed by a rare
performance of Songfest, a song-cycle in
12 settings of 13 poems, commissioned for America’s bicentennial, this work
bears relevance to societal issues still facing our nation. Featured soloists
include Dennis Blackwell, Victoria Botero, Christin Marie Hill, Eric McKeever,
Sylvia Stoner and Alexander Turpin. The concert will be hosted by Paul Laird,
Bernstein scholar and Professor of Musicology, University of Kansas. A reception follows the performance. Presented with support from
ELM Chamber Music Series, ELM Orchestra Fund, Sterne Virtuoso Concert Series,
Filene Concert Series and the Arts Planning Group. Additional support is
provided by the Tsou Music Scholar Series and the Jacob Perlow Series.
