Czech
scholar Adam Hradilek, of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes
(Oral History Department) and founding member of Memorial Czech Republic, will
present the current approaches to the study and perception of Soviet political
repression in today´s Ukraine and Russia. Hradilek will draw upon his own
experience as a researcher in both countries. Through archival research in the
former NKVD/KGB files on Gulag prisoners, site visits to former labor camps
like Vorkuta, and interviews of Gulag survivors, Hradilek is at the forefront
of the documentation and memorialization of Soviet political repression.
