Freelancing is emerging
as a modern, viable career path, especially in Creative fields. Over half of
Millennials did freelance work last year, and over half of those in the
Creative Economy of the Capital Region are freelancers. The appeal of setting
your own hours is great -- but is it possible to sustain yourself on this path?
We will discuss this with three experienced freelancers in creative fields
including Visual Art, Digital/Tech, and more.
Topics discussed will include:
-Getting started --what you absolutely need to know about taxes, and some other not-so-glamorous topics
-Setting your fee (and is it okay to work for free?
-Networking, finding gigs, and getting your name out there
Sponsored by the Skidmore College Arts Administration Program, MDOCS,
Media & Film Studies and the Career Development Center, in collaboration
with ACE, the Upstate Alliance for the Creative Economy.
