New York State Summer
School of the Arts (NYSSSA)
The NYSSSA School of
Dance is sponsored and supported by the New York State Education Department and
the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
The School of
Dance is held in Saratoga Springs in cooperation with Skidmore College
and the National Museum of Dance. Founding Artistic Director Carolyn
Adams has an impressive dance history as a former Paul Taylor Dancer, Juilliard
and Alvin Ailey Faculty Member and founder of the American Dance Legacy
Institute. 30 students selected through a competitive audition
process participate in classes which encompass a variety of modern techniques
as well as composition work, repertory and performance. Choreographers in
residence have included Robert Battle, David Parson, Francesca Harper and Danny
Grossman. Students work with these choreographers to learn their seminal
works and are encouraged to explore and create their own
choreography.
