Screening of Memories of a Penitent Heart (2016) with director Cecilia Aldarondo in Conversation with Professor Mason Stokes

Cecilia Aldarondo, Assistant Professor of English, will present her 2016 documentary Memories of a Penitent Heart, which recently won 'Best Documentary' at the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival. The film premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival and will be broadcast nationally on the acclaimed public television program POV in 2017. After the screening, Professor Mason Stokes, author of the essay 'Namesake' about his uncle, will lead the audience in conversation with Prof. Aldarondo.

About the film: 25 years after Miguel died of AIDS, his niece Cecilia tracks down his estranged lover and cracks open a Pandora’s box of unresolved family drama.  Please view the films trailer here: https://vimeo.com/157470809
