Event Details - Resonance Workshop

Join us on Wednesday, March 21, from 8:40 – 10:00 am, for a workshop presented in conjunction with the exhibition Along the Border. Experimental composer, multimedia artist, and performance artist Guillermo Galindo will lead a workshop on resonance that will involve listening, chanting, exploring architectural acoustics, and sonic healing.

Galindo describes his approach this way: “Someone who has a deep voice is said to have resonance. A resonant voice can transmit persuasive and meaningful thoughts with a powerful lasting effect. In physics, resonance is a phenomenon in which a vibrating system or external force drives another system to oscillate with greater amplitude at specific frequencies. When a distinct sonic frequency or combination of frequencies is generated by a physical object, or the human voice, there is the possibility of making another body vibrate. Resonance is used in the art of sound healing as it mends specific organs or parts of the body through the generation of tones that resonate with specific organ’s and their specific shape and physical constitution. Through listening, chanting and the understanding of architectural acoustics the participants of this workshop will understand the principles of resonance with one another and the surrounding environment.”
