FRANCES STELOFF Lecture to be delivered by CAROLYN FORCHE

At the Payne Room, Tang Museum, 8 PM, Thursday October 12^th, 2023

The annual Frances Steloff Lecture will be delivered by Carolyn Forche, one of the country’s leading writers and Human Rights Activists. She will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters at the event from Skidmore College President Marc Conner.

Forche will also respond to audience questions at the event and sign books at a reception.

Forche’s latest, widely discussed book is WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD IS TRUE, a memoir of her Human Rights work in Latin America. Her books of poems include THE COUNTRY BETWEEN US, THE ANGEL OF HISTORY, BLUE HOUR and others. Her best-selling anthology AGAINST FORGETTING inspired numerous studies built around the idea of a “Poetry of Witness.”

Forche’s many awards include The Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize, The Lannan Award, The LA Times Book Prize and the Morris Hiroshima Foundation Award for Peace Activism.

She was Director of Creative writing at Skidmore College for six years before becoming the Lannan Professor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC
