Dr. Carolyn Finney: The N Word:
Nature, Revisted (An Imagined Conversation with John Muir)
Gannett Auditorium, Thursday Oct 27,
6:30 pm
Please join the ESS Program for our annual
keynote event. Carolyn Finney, Ph.D. and Artist-in-Residence at Middlebury College, will
perform her “work in progress” entitled The N Word: Nature, Revisited
(An Imagined Conversation with John Muir) for this year’s ESS Keynote
talk. Dr. Finney is a storyteller, author, and cultural geographer
who is deeply interested in issues related to identity, difference, creativity,
and resilience. The aim of her work is to develop greater cultural competency
within environmental organizations and institutions, challenge media outlets on
their representation of difference, and increase awareness of how privilege
shapes who gets to speak to environmental issues and determine policy and
action. Her talk is open to the public. Local environmental and
conservation groups will have informational tables set up in advance of the
performance.
