Prof. Meika Loe from Colgate University will present her research on women transitioning into retirement. This talk will be held in the Whitman Room at the Tang Museum, and will be followed by refreshments.

What has retirement meant to you? What does success look like in this stage of life? What advice would you give future retirees? These are some of the questions Colgate professors Meika Loe and Kay Johnston have incorporated into their interview-based research with professional women retirees. In this interactive session, they share findings from their research focused around 6 key themes - fear, identity, liberation, time, relationships, and health -  and engage audience members in discussion about their own experiences in this new chapter of life.

Meika is Associate Professor of Sociology and Women's Studies at Colgate University, and the current Director of Women's Studies. She is interested in life transitions of all kinds. Her most recent book is an ethnography of the "oldest old," titled Aging Our Way: Lessons for Living from 85 and Beyond (Oxford University Press). Kay is a recently-retired professor of Educational Studies and Women's Studies.  Her interest in this topic are both academic and personal. She has previously written about moral development, teaching, and education

Open to the public.
