Albany's own Youth FX film program presents an evening of award-winning short films followed by a Q & A with the
filmmakers after the screening. These powerful short films range from dramatic narratives
to insightful documentaries that reveal the hopes, dreams and realities of young people
living in the capital region. Written, directed, and produced by local teens, Youth
FX films have screened and won awards at some of the biggest film festivals across
the country including: San Francisco International Film Festival, Los Angeles Film
Festival, Chicago International Film Festival and Woodstock Film Festival.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Youth FX filmmakers and
program directors Bhawin Suchak and Darian Henry.
Youth FX is a digital film and media arts program for young people ages 14-19 in Albany, NY with films which have screened at Sundance Film Festival, Woodstock FIlm Festival and beyond -- and won awards including at the Rockland Film Festival (2015: Best Drama (Falling dir. by Maya Suchak), Best Documentary (It's Natural dir. by Darian Henry & Wylia Mceod), and program director Bhawin Suchak, Mentor of The Year).
The program inspires and empowers youth in Albany's under-resourced neighborhoods through an understanding and hands-on exploration of the creative and technical aspects of digital filmmaking. They aim to foster and grow a community of young people who have a voice in shaping the destiny of their personal lives and their communities by telling their stories and acquiring media skills in emerging technologies.
